you are not doing a child a favour by trying to shield him from reality. The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil.” – Walt Disney

Parent & Child Counselling in Skelmersdale

Helping Families Find Balance

Being a parent can be both the most rewarding and the most terrifying journey a person can embark on. But, one thing is for sure – just like everything else in life, it doesn’t always go to plan!

There are manuals on how to bring our children up until around the age of 5. Even using those, children have the unique ability to throw curve balls from places we didn’t know existed; Because of all of this, it is easy to feel lost as a parent. It’s easy to fear each day won’t be your best parenting day, and to worry about everything to do with your child.

The day you become a parent, unfortunately, isn’t the day you are no longer human. Anxiety about whether your is child developing the same struggles and worries that you have can be overwhelming. I can help you with:

  • Managing your busy lifestyle and helping you be the best parent you can be

  • Your habit of putting yourself down

  • Grieving the loss of your parent

  • Missing the person, you were before becoming a Mum or Dad

  • Anxiety you have always struggled with

  • New anxious feelings around being a parent

  • Anger, frustration and coping in difficult situations

  • Anything else you would like to be better & to show your child the better way

Working with me, you can have the freedom and space to discover who you want to be and how you want to parent.

The scariest part about raising teenagers is when we remember being one!

When our children reach adolescence, your relationship can change faster than anyone prepared you for. It can feel like overnight your little one has grown up and now you are feeling exhausted by the fallouts. The fact that they don’t want to be around anyone but their friends can leave any parent feeling hurt and unwanted. It can be difficult to understand what the hell has happened and what you can do about it.

Feeling confused about what is the "right" parenting decision doesn’t have to be your norm. You might worry that your teenager is making the wrong decisions for their future and feel unsure how to communicate this to them. Knowing the reason why a decision has been made can be an extremely powerful thing for any person, not just a parent. I can help begin your journey to feeling confident in your parenting decisions and empowered when you speak with your children.

It is easy to feel alone as a parent. Please know that many people need support, being a parent is difficult in our modern world.

High school can be a challenge for both you and your teen. New and difficult work, new pressures, new teachers, new friends and everything in between. It’s a toss-up in some families who faces the greater impact by the change - the parent or the child?

With over 8 years’ experience working with adolescents and 5 years working in education, I am uniquely qualified to help you to become closer to your teen.

I began my career working with the youth offending team and since then I have worked successfully as a counsellor across schools in West Lancashire. Every day, I see the challenges faced by parents and adolescents alike.

I have worked with families going through countless challenges from bereavement to addiction. I can help families to understand the emotions that underpin these challenges and help your family find the right balance by recognising the dynamics at play. We can find a way that means your family can work together and understanding this: discovering what isn’t working, will make a positive impact on your home.

For all stages in life

Therapy can provide you and your children with the support you need when working towards a better life. Even if you’re feeling lost now, I can help guide you in making lasting, positive changes in your life.
